Standing in solidarity with Colten Boushie's family in Edmonton

Around 400 people attended a rally on Feb. 16 at the Alberta Legislature in solidarity with the family of Colten Boushie, including Alberta Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Richard Feehan.  The event was to show support for Boushie's family in the aftermath of the acquittal of Saskatchewan farmer Gerald Stanley in the shooting death of the 22-year-old, which took place in 2016.

Boushie's tearful sister Jade Tootoosis told the gathering “My family hurts, we are frustrated, and we are tired. We are tired of this and we will continue to speak out and to fight for justice for all Indigenous people because Colten Boushie is not just a son, he's not just a brother, he's not just a nephew or a grandson. Colten Boushie is every Indigenous person in this land.”

This was the third rally in a week in Edmonton concerning the verdict. On Saturday, Feb. 10, hundreds also attended a rally outside of Edmonton Police headquarters, as well as a candlelight vigil that same evening at the Alberta legislature.
