Summary
The remains of a second missing hunter were recovered from the Rocher River shortly before 5 p.m. on May 1. His name has not been released. An autopsy will be conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiners’ Office.
On April 30, the body of Walter Ladouceur, of Fort Chipewyan, was recovered from the Rocher River. An autopsy will also be conducted.
The search for the four missing hunters became a recovery effort on April 26.
The hunters, all experienced outdoorsmen, left the community on April 23 in a boat which was later found in the river that flows through Wood Buffalo National Park. The men were heading to an area known as Devil’s Gate which is near Fort Chipewyan.
The RCMP, with the assistance of the E Division Underwater Recovery Team (British Columbia), K Division Air Services, along with various partners, including Parks Canada, and Human Remains Detection Dogs, continue the search for the two remaining men.
