New superintendent named for NSD

August 11, 2016. Gord Atkinson has been named the new superintendent and CEO for Northland School Division. Atkinson, who served most recently as associate superintendent with Wild Rose School Division, was selected following a Canada-wide search. Among Atkinson’s accomplishments, Official Trustee Lois Byers pointed out in a statement is “his understanding in the importance of Indigenous education, including languages and engaging Indigenous peoples in the education of their children.” Among the goals to be accomplished by NSD over the next year is the return to an elected school board. Atkinson’s appointment is effective Sept. 1. He is replacing Donna Barrett, who is retiring.
