The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra will celebrate Music Monday May 1 with a concert for 1,700 Kindergarten to Grade 3 students at the Winspear Centre. The concert will feature Running Thunder First Nations Dancers, the Métis Child Jiggers, and Daniel Gervais, grand master fiddle champion.

The Coalition for Music Education, dedicated to raising awareness for music education, commemorates Canada’s musical heritage with a new Music Monday anthem each year.

Hundreds of thousands of students, educators, and music makers participate in a simultaneous nationwide concert performance of an original song written by a Canadian artist. Commissioned by the coalition, the new anthem is Sing It Together, co-written by award-winning songwriters Marc Jordan and Ian Thomas.

The recording and official music video features Inuit throat singing, Métis fiddling, Indigenous drumming, and children's choirs.

In its 14th year, Music Monday is Canada’s annual celebration of the power of music. It is the only nation-wide celebration of music that actively engages children and youth in their schools and communities.
