Everyone can experience the music and dance of Métis culture during the Métis Spring Festival.
Held at Servus Place in St. Albert, the event features a talent show on May 18 at 7:30 p.m., and a Jiggling and Fiddling Competition on May 19 and 20 at 1 p.m.
Square Dance performances are featured throughout the festival, which also includes concessions and crafters.
Organized by Métis Child and Family Services, the Spring Festival is in its 10th year.
“It's like a reunion for the community and those who are interested in participating in our culture as it pertains to music and dance,” said organizer Florence Gaucher.
The location of St. Albert was chosen because of its history as a Métis community.
Gaucher says that between 400 and 600 people attend each day of the festival.
“Everyone is welcome. It's an event that we would like to see the general public attend regardless of ethnicity. It's about sharing our culture.”
Admission is $10/$8 seniors and ages 6 to 12.
