The Lac La Biche Canadian Native Friendship Centre and Alberta Parks launched the availability of two Tipi Comfort Camping sites at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park on May 15.
“It’s just recognizing our heritage, our Métis and First Nations people,” said Lac La Biche Mayor Omer Moghrabi. He said that Lac La Biche is one of the most culturally diverse communities in the province and the oldest county. It has about 160 bodies of water.
“When people come here they are awestruck,” said Moghrabi.
Following a formal opening ceremony, a lunch was provided and cultural programming, which included traditional drumming, singing and dancing performances were held during the early afternoon.
Comfort camping is available from May 18 to Sept 4 for a cost of $129.00 a night in the tipi.
