Miranda Jimmy, an Indigenous arts development consultant with the government of Alberta, will soon be on the road to provide workshops on the $15,000 artists grants being offered for research, art production, professional development and marketing.
“A lot of Indigenous artists have an idea or are already working in their area, but have never received a grant before, and that’s where I come in,” she told Dustin McGladrey of CFWE-FM.
She will help individuals understand what a grant looks like, how does someone apply, what information is needed to accompany a grant application, if they get the grant what people need to do, and reporting to the funder.
Jimmy will be visiting friendship centres across Alberta to provide that information. Friendship centres are the “ear to the ground in the community”, she said.
The first workshop will occur in Edmonton. Other centres include Medicine Hat, Pincher Creek, Lethbridge, Calgary, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer, Lac La Biche, Slave Lake, High Prairie, Peace River, High Level, and Grande Prairie.
“I look forward to meeting lots of artists who are looking to connect with me and answering a bunch of questions.
Artists of every age are supported, with those under 18 needing parental support to sign legal documents.
