The award-winning, Edmonton-produced film “Birth of a Family” is returning to Edmonton for a free screening.
Metro Cinema is the place to be at 1 p.m. on Oct. 29.
“Birth of a Family” follows four Indigenous siblings, victims of the Sixties Scoop, as they are united as a family for the first time during a retreat in Banff. Removed from their young Dene mother’s care, Betty Ann, Esther, Rosalie and Ben were four of the 20,000 Indigenous children taken from their families between 1955 and 1985, to be either adopted into white families or to live in foster care.
As the four siblings piece together their shared history, their connection deepens, bringing laughter with it, and their family begins to take shape.
The film won the 2017 Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF17) Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature.
