Announcement from Tony Belcourt on the passing of his cousin Herb Belcourt

Tony Belcourt shared this message on Facebook earlier today. Herb Belcourt was a much loved and respected man, not only across Alberta, but across Canada:

My eldest cousin Herb Belcourt passed away this morning. This pic is from the Belcourt Family Reunion that he organized in 2007 at our home community of Manitou... Sakagihan (Spirit Lake) now called Lac. Ste. Anne, Alberta.

Herb was tireless in his efforts to pave the way for a better life for our people - all Aboriginal peoples. My heart goes out to his wife Leslie and his children, grandchildren, sisters and all our relations.

He is now at rest and I pray for his peaceful and swift journey to the Spirit World to join with our ancestors.
