Carey Terrance now knows which National Hockey League club he’s aspiring to play for.
Terrance, a member of the Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne, was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round, 59th over-all, at the NHL Entry Draft on June 29.
Terrance, an 18-year-old centre, has spent the past two seasons toiling with the Pennsylvania-based Erie Otters, members of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
He collected a team-high 47 points in 67 regular season matches. Terrance’s 30 goals were also the most earned on his squad this season.
The Otters, however, did not qualify for the league’s playoffs.
This year’s NHL Entry Draft, which is being held in Nashville, began on June 28 with first-round selections. The remainder of the draft, rounds two through seven, were scheduled for June 29.
Terrance, who is listed at 6-foot and 175-pounds, had been tabbed as an early-round selection for the 2023 draft for a few seasons now.
He had earned 24 points, including 10 goals, in 62 games during his rookie season with the Otters.
Before playing in the OHL, Terrance played in the world’s largest youth hockey circuit, the Greater Toronto Hockey League, during the 2019-20 season. He was a member of the Toronto Titans’ Under-15 AAA club.
Terrance finished second in team scoring that year with 28 points in 33 outings.
