Pope Francis took part in a Mass at the Sacred Heart Church of the First Peoples in the afternoon in Edmonton on July 25. He had earlier that day delivered his public apology for the role of Christians in the residential school system during a public event in Maskwacis, about 100 km south of Edmonton. The Mass at Sacred Heart was an invitation only event.
